2024 saw several highly significant, historic solar flares and geomagnetic storms, with the most notable occurring in May and October. These events, driven by Solar Cycle 25, produced the strongest solar storms in over two decades, featuring powerful X-class flares that caused global auroras, intense geomagnetic disturbances (G5 level), and some infrastructure impacts. 

Key 2024 Solar Flare Events:

October 3, 2024: An X9.0 class flare erupted, which was the strongest of the entire solar cycle 25 and one of the largest in recorded history.

May 10–13, 2024 (Mother's Day Storm): A series of intense X-class flares (including X5.9) resulted in a G5 (Extreme) geomagnetic storm, the strongest since October 2003, causing widespread, low-latitude auroras and causing $500 million in damages to agriculture.

February 22, 2024: An X6.3 flare occurred, which was the strongest of the cycle at that time.
